Geography of Boise
Boise, Idaho, the state capital and the seat of Ada County. The city stands at about 2,700 feet (800 m) above sea level on the Boise River in the southwestern part of the state. It is Idaho's largest city and the distribution center for an agricultural, lumbering, and mining region. Abundant hydroelectric power has stimulated the growth of manufacturing industries. Boise State University is here. On the grounds of Julia Davis Park are the state historical museum, an art gallery, gardens, and varied recreational facilities.
Boise was founded in 1863 and incorporated as a city in 1864, when it became the capital of Idaho Territory.
