Geography of Billings

Billings, Montana, the state's largest city and the seat of Yellowstone County. The city is on the Yellowstone River and is a trade and shipping center for a highly irrigated region that produces wool, dairy products, livestock, and alfalfa. Billings has meat-packing plants, flour mills, and beet sugar and oil refineries. Rocky Mountain College and Montana State University-Billings are here. Pictograph Cave State Monument, with ancient Indian wall writing, is nearby. Billings was founded in 1882.
