Tempe, Arizona, a city in Maricopa County. It is on the Salt River, bordering Phoenix. Tempe is mainly a residential and college community. Arizona State University is located here. The city also serves as a trading center for a farming and ranching area. The Fiesta Bowl collegiate football game is held here each year. Tempe was founded as a trading post in 1872.
