Geography of Roswell

Roswell, New Mexico, the seat of Chaves County, in the southeastern part of the state. It lies in the Pecos River valley in a ranching, irrigated farming, and oil-producing area. Manufacturing is important in the city. A branch of Eastern New Mexico University is here. Roswell was founded in 1871 and was incorporated as a city in 1903.
