Clovis, New Mexico, the seat of Curry County. It is 95 miles (153 km) southwest of Amarillo, Texas, at an altitude of 4,218 feet (1,286 m). The surrounding area produces wheat and cattle. Nearby Cannon Air Force Base is the city's largest employer. Stone spear tips and arrowheads, called Clovis points, have been found here. More than 11,000 years old, they are among the earliest prehistoric tools discovered in the Americas.
