Greensboro, North Carolina, the seat of Guilford County, 66 miles (106 km) northwest of Raleigh. Made here are textiles and clothing, machinery, furniture, and metal products. A branch of the University of North Carolina, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Bennett College, Guilford College, and Greensboro College are in Greensboro.

Greensboro was founded in 1808 and named for Nathanael Greene, who led American troops in the nearby Battle of Guilford Courthouse (1781). Guilford Courthouse National Military Park marks the battlefield.
