Geography of Natchitoches
Natchitoches, Louisiana, the seat of Natchitoches Parish. It is on the Cane River, 63 miles (101 km) southeast of Shreveport. Chief products are processed farm goods. Northwestern State University of Louisiana is located in the city. Natchitoches was founded as a French military and trading post in 1714, and was the first permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase area.
