The All-American Canal

All-American Canal, an irrigation canal in southern California. Imperial Dam near Yuma, Arizona, diverts water from the Colorado River into the canal, which runs generally westward for 80 miles (130 km) through the Imperial Valley. The canal was completed in 1940 as part of the federal government's Boulder (now Hoover) Dam project. The All-American Canal and its branches irrigate more than 600,000 acres (240,000 hectares) of farmland in southern California.
