Llano Estacado

Llano Estacado, or Staked Plain, a plateau in the western Texas Panhandle and southeast New Mexico, forming the southern part of the High Plains. It is about 250 miles (400 km) north to south by 150 miles (240 km) east to west, at a general elevation of about 2,500 to 4,000 feet (760 to 1,220 m). The plain has natural gas and oil fields, cattle ranches, and irrigated farms. Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas, are the largest cities on the Llano Estacado.
