The Canadian River
Canadian River, a river originating in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northeastern New Mexico, near the Colorado border. It flows southward to Conchas Lake and eastward through New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle, and Oklahoma, joining the Arkansas River in eastern Oklahoma. The Canadian River is 906 miles (1,458 km) long. It is shallow and not navigable. A number of dams impound reservoirs on the river, mainly for flood control, recreation, and irrigation. In addition to Conchas Lake they include Eufaula Lake, in Oklahoma, and Lake Meredith, in Texas.
