Geography of Alicante
Alicante, (Spanish), Spain, the capital of Alicante Province. It is a port on the Mediterranean Sea. The city is a processing and trading center and a popular resort.
Alicante was originally a Greek colony and then later the Roman city of Lucentum. In 711 it was captured by the Moors; it was retaken by Christian forces in the mid-13th century. In the early 14th century the city came under the rule of Aragon.
