La Coruña, Spain, a seaport on the Atlantic Ocean 310 miles (500 km) northwest of Madrid. Livestock, wine, and fish are the main exports. The city has oil refineries and produces processed foods and pharmaceuticals. La Coruña was founded in ancient times, probably by the Phoenicians. The Spanish Armada sailed for England from here in 1588.
