Gulf of Riga
Riga, Gulf of, an arm of the Baltic Sea, bordering the west coast of Estonia and extending into the north coast of Latvia. The gulf is about 90 miles (145 km) long and 60 miles (97 km) wide. It is joined to the Baltic by straits on either side of Sarema, an Estonian island in the gulf's mouth. Near the mouth of the Western Dvina River at the gulf's south end is Riga, capital of Latvia.
