Cape Finisterre

Finisterre, Cape, the westernmost point of the Spanish mainland. It is in La Coruña province, jutting into the Atlantic. In 1747, during the War of the Austrian Succession, a British fleet defeated the French off Cape Finisterre. The cape was the scene of another British naval victory over the French in 1805, during the Napoleonic Wars.
