Geography of Gottingen
Göttingen, Germany, a city in Lower Saxony. It is on the Leine River in the central part of the country. The city's university, founded in 1737, has been famed in mathematics and physics since the 1800's. The mathematician K. F. Gauss and noted nuclear physicists have been associated with it. Göttingen's products include optical and precision instruments. The city was chartered about 1210.
