Tomsk, Russia, a city in Siberia. It is on the Tom River, near its junction with the Ob River. Tomsk is an industrial center and an exchange point for river and rail transport. Manufactured goods include machine tools, electric motors, ball bearings, and chemicals. In Tomsk are the oldest university in Siberia (founded in 1888), a polytechnic institute, and a medical school. Tomsk was founded in 1604.
