The Pechora River
Pechora River, a river in the north-central part of Russia. The river flows generally northward from its source in the Ural Mountains to Pechora Bay, an inlet of the Barents Sea. Much of its 1,100-mile (1,770-km) course is through forest and tundra regions. There are important coal deposits in its drainage area of 100,000 square miles (260,000 km2). Major tributaries are the Tsilma, Ishma, and Usa. The Pechora is navigable for most of its length in the high-water seasons of spring and autumn, and is navigable for 470 miles (760 km) in summer.
