The Mekong River
Mekong River, (Tibetan:Dza-Chu, Chinese:Lantsang, länătsängă), a river of southeastern Asia. 2,600 miles (4,200 km) long. It flows southeastward from the mountains in southern Qinghai province, China, through Tibet and the Chinese province of Yunnan, along Laos's borders with Burma and northeastern Thailand, and across Cambodia and the southern tip of Vietnam to the South China Sea. The delta, covering 26,000 square miles (67,000 km2), normally is among Asia's main rice-raising regions. During the summer floods, the Mekong backs up to enlarge the Tonle Sap, a lake in Cambodia.
