The Kura River

Kura River, a river in Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. In ancient times it was called the Cyrus River. From its source in northeastern Turkey the Kura runs generally eastward for 940 miles (1,510 km), emptying into the Caspian Sea south of Baku, Azerbaijan. The Kura flows through Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The river is used for navigation and irrigation in its lower course; hydroelectric power is produced at several dams.
