Geography of Nagoya

Nagoya, Japan, the capital of Aichi prefecture. It is at the head of Ise Bay on the south coast of Honshu, Japan's main island. Nagoya is an important transportation center and has one of the nation's busiest ports; it is also an industrial center, producing machinery, automotive equipment, and chemicals. Nagoya University and Nagoya Institute of Technology are the leading educational institutions. Nagoya Castle and the Tokugawa Museum of Art are among the city's attractions. Nagoya dates from the 1520's. The city was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1891 and was heavily damaged in World War II.
