Geography of Kitakyushu

Kitakyushu, Japan, a city and seaport in Fukuoka Prefecture, northern Kyushu. It lies on the coast of the Korean Strait near Shimonoseki Strait, which leads to the Inland Sea. Kitakyushu is a center of Japan's heavy industry and one of the world's leading iron- and steel-producing cities. It was formed in 1963 by combining the cities of Kokura, Moji, Tobata, Wakamatsu, and Yahata.
