Easy Surprise Inside Cupcakes: A Fun Baking Project

 
Surprise Package Cupcakes

YIELD Makes 24 cupcakes

INGREDIENTS

1 package (18-1/4 ounces) chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare mix Food coloring (optional) 1 container (16 ounces) vanilla frosting 1 tube (4-1/4 ounces) white decorator icing 72 chewy fruit squares Colored decors and birthday candles (optional)

PREPARATION:

  1. Line 24 standard (2-1/2-inch) muffin pan cups with paper liners or spray with nonstick cooking spray. Prepare and bake cake mix in prepared muffin cups according to package directions. Cool in pans on wire racks 15 minutes. Remove cupcakes to racks; cool completely.
  2. If desired, tint frosting with food coloring, adding a few drops at a time until desired color is reached. Spread frosting over cupcakes.
  3. Use decorator icing to pipe "ribbons" on fruit squares to resemble wrapped presents. Place 3 candy presents on each cupcake. Decorate with decors and candles, if desired.
