The Darling River
Darling River, the main tributary of Australia's largest river, the Murray. The Darling has headwaters in the Great Dividing Range and flows southwestward about 1,810 miles (2,910 km), mainly through New South Wales. Along part of its upper course the Darling is also known by other names, including Barwon and Macintyre. The drainage basin covers roughly 247,000 square miles (640,000 km2). The Darling is used mainly for irrigation.
