The Torres Strait

Torres Strait, a shallow stretch of sea between New Guinea and the northern tip of Cape York Peninsula. Australia. The strait is about 95 miles (150 km) wide and connects the Arafura and Coral seas. Numerous coral reefs in the strait make navigation difficult. The strait was discovered in 1606 by Luis Vaez de Torres, a Spanish navigator.
