Norman, Oklahoma, the seat of Cleveland County. It is 18 miles (29 km) southeast of Oklahoma City. The surrounding area produces petroleum, corn, alfalfa, grain, cotton, cattle, and peanuts. Norman has some light manufacturing. A large number of its residents work at the University of Oklahoma and the state mental hospital. Norman was founded in 1889 and chartered as a city in 1902.
