Geography of Weirton

Weirton, West Virginia, a city in Brooke and Hancock counties, on the Ohio River. It is in West Virginia's industrial Northern Panhandle and is about 30 miles (48 km) west of Pittsburgh. Weirton grew as a company town, built by the Weirton Steel Company for its workers. There are coal mines, chemical laboratories, tin can factories, and railway shops. Weirton was incorporated in 1947.
