Geography of Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, Florida, a city in Volusia County. It lies on the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, 95 miles (153 km) south of Jacksonville. Daytona Beach is primarily a resort city, but has some light industry. Major attractions include auto races at Daytona International Speedway, west of the city; a museum of arts and sciences and one of motor sports; and the sand beach, 23 miles (37 km) long and 500 feet (152 m) wide. Bethune-Cookman College and Emery-Riddle Aeronautical University are in Daytona Beach.

The site of Daytona Beach was visited by the Spanish explorer Ponce de León in 1512. The city was founded in 1870.
