Luray Caverns

Luray Caverns, a series of caves in the Shenandoah Valley near Luray, Virginia, about 80 miles (130 km) west of Washington, D.C. The individual caves range in height from 30 to 140 feet (9 to 43 m) and contain thousands of limestone formations that are reflected in several lakes. The caverns are electrically lighted and are fitted with walks and bridges. They are open to visitors throughout the year. The caverns were discovered in 1878.
