Chickahominy

Chickahominy, a river in Virginia. It rises a short distance northwest of Richmond, and flows parallel to the James River, which it finally joins 10 miles (16 km) west of Williamsburg. The river is about 90 miles (145 km) long. Several important Civil War battles were fought in the vicinity of the Chickahominy in 1862, including Fair Oaks, Gaines's Mill, Savage's Station, Frazier's Farm, Williamsburg, Hanover Court-House, and Mechanicsville. The Battle of Cold Harbor took place in the vicinity, June 1–3, 1864.
