Geography of Amsterdam

Amsterdam, New York, a city in Montgomery County. It is on the Mohawk River, about 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Albany. Amsterdam is a leading carpet and rug manufacturing center. Other products include clothing and electrical equipment. Nearby is a section of the original Erie Canal. Amsterdam was first settled in 1783 and was incorporated in 1885.
