Geography of Lewiston

Lewiston, Maine, a city in Androscoggin County. It is on the Androscoggin River, opposite Auburn, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Portland. Both Lewiston and Auburn are manufacturing cities, deriving abundant hydroelectric power from the Androscoggin River.

Lewiston is the state's chief textile and electronics center. Bates College and the Androscoggin Historical Society are here. Lewiston was settled in 1770 and was incorporated as a city in 1861. It has the council-manager form of government.
