Geography of Chelsea
Chelsea Massachusetts, a city on the Mystic River three miles (5 km) north of downtown Boston. The first settler was Samuel Maverick, a trader who came from England in 1624, only four years after the Pilgrims. The settlement, originally called Winnisimmet, was annexed by Boston in 1634. In 1739 the town was separated from Boston and incorporated under the name Chelsea. The city was struck by disastrous fires in 1908 and again in 1973.
