Geography of Longueuil

Longueuil, Canada, a city in Longueuil County in southern Quebec province. It lies across the St. Lawrence River from downtown Montreal and is one of that city's largest suburbs. Longueuil is primarily residential, but has some manufacturing. It was founded in 1657 by Charles Le Moyne. The city was enlarged in 1969 by a merger with Jacques-Cartier, and again in 2002 when it merged with seven other communities.
