Geography of Laval
Laval, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal. It lies immediately west of Montreal and occupies all of Jesus Island (Île Jésus) in the St. Lawrence River. The island is about 21 miles (34 km) long and as much as 7 miles (11 km) wide. Laval is partly an industrial city and partly residential; some of the land is still farmed.
Laval was created in 1965 by the merger of all 14 cities and towns on the island. Settlement of the island began about 1680.
