Geography of Sudbury
Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, a city about 200 miles (320 km) north-northwest of Toronto. Sudbury is a commercial and industrial center in a major mining region that produces much of the world's nickel. Also mined with the nickel are large amounts of copper, cobalt, and platinum. The city has lumber mills and railway shops, and there are smelters in nearby Copper Cliff and Coniston. The Laurentian University of Sudbury is here. Sudbury was founded in the 1880's. In 2001, seven neighboring municipalities became a part of the city of Sudbury.
