Geography of Zaragoza
Zaragoza,or Saragossa, Spain, the capital of Zaragoza province. Zaragoza stands on the Ebro River in northeastern Spain in an irrigated farming region. It is the leading industrial and business center of the province. It produces beet sugar, metals, textiles, paper, and machinery. Zaragoza is a center of culture. Its university was founded in 1474 and the two richly decorated cathedrals date from the 12th and 17th centuries. Zaragoza was founded by the Romans and was held by Moors from 712 to 1118. In 1808 its citizens valiantly defended it against Napoleon's army.
