The Ebro River

Ebro River, one of the chief rivers of Spain. It begins in the Cantabrian Mountains of northern Spain and flows southeastward about 570 miles (920 km) to its delta in the Mediterranean Sea. About one-sixth of Spain is drained by the river. Major tributaries flow from the Pyrenees and include the Segre, Aragón, and Gállego rivers. The Ebro's flow varies greatly, both seasonally and from year to year, but is normally greater than that of any other Spanish river. Numerous dams have been built for electric power and for water to irrigate much of the Ebro Valley. Navigation is of little importance. Zaragoza is the principal city on the river.
