The Dvina River

Dvina River, the name of two rivers in eastern Europe. The Northern Dvinais formed in European Russia at Velikiy Ustyug by the Sukhona and Yug rivers. It flows 455 miles (730 km) northwest to Dvina Bay, 25 miles (40 km) below Archangel on the White Sea.

The Western Dvinaoriginates in the Valday Hills in European Russia. It flows south west into Belarus (where it is called the Zakh-Dzvina) and turns northwest, flowing in that direction through Latvia (where it is called the Daugava) to the Gulf of Riga. Its total length is 633 miles (1,019 km).
