The Hindi Kush Mountains

Hindu Kush, a mountain range in central Asia. It extends about 400 miles (640 km) across northeastern Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. Elevations in the eastern portion, where it adjoins the Karakoram Range and the Pamirs, reach about 20,000 feet (6,100 m). Tirich Mir, the highest peak, reaches 25,230 feet (7,690 m). There are many passes through the Hindu Kush, mostly in the western portion. In Afghanistan it branches into numerous smaller ranges.
