Geography of Padang
Padang, Indonesia, the main port on Sumatra's western coast, bordering the Indian Ocean. It is 285 miles (459 km) west-southwest of Singapore. Roads and a railway cross the coastal mountains here, and airlines serve the city. Padang grew from a Dutch trading post established about 1680. It exports coal, coffee, tea, copra, rubber, spices, and tobacco.
