Clianthus
Clianthus, a genus of evergreen shrubs grown for their clusters of scarlet flowers. The shrubs grow as trailing plants, and have paired leaflets along the stems. The fruit is a cylindrical pod called a legume. The glory pea of Australia has claw-shaped flowers with purplish-black blotches at the base. The parrot's bill, or parrot's beak, of New Zealand is named for its beak-shaped petals.
The clianthus belongs to the pea family, Leguminosae. The glory pea is Clianthus formosus; parrot's bill, C. puniceus.
