Winter Heliotrope, or Sweet Coltsfoot, a hardy perennial garden herb that grows throughout the year and flowers in early spring. It grows 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) high and has round, smooth leaves. The flowers are small, fragrant, and off-white to purple in color. The plant is native to the Mediterranean area.

The winter heliotrope is Petasites fragrans. Although it resembles the garden heliotrope, it belongs to a different family, the Compositae.
