Classic Bread Pudding Recipe: A Comforting Dessert

 
INGREDIENTS

2 cups French bread cubes 2 cups multigrain bread cubes 2 cups chopped unpeeled apples 1/3 cup golden raisins 1‑1/2 cups fat-free half-and-half 3/4 cup cholesterol-free egg substitute 1/2 cup sugar substitute 2 tablespoons liquid butter flavoring 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon salt

PREPARATION:

  1. Lightly spray 2-quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Combine bread, apples and raisins in prepared dish. Whisk half-and-half, egg substitute, sugar substitute, butter flavoring, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and salt in large bowl until blended. Pour over bread mixture.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Let bread mixture stand 15 minutes; stir every 5 minutes to coat bread evenly. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until set in center. Serve warm.
Serving Suggestion Drizzle each dessert plate with 1 teaspoon sugar-free caramel sauce or maple syrup and top with a warm square of bread pudding.
