American University
American University, a private, coeducational institution of higher learning in Washington, D.C., affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university has colleges of arts and sciences, business administration, law, and public and international affairs. It also has a division of continuing education. Under the Washington Semester Program, students from other colleges spend a semester at American University studying various aspects of national government, journalism, or the arts. The university was chartered in 1893 and opened in 1914.
