The Timor Sea
Timor Sea, an arm of the Indian Ocean between the island of Timor and the northern coast of Australia. It is about 300 miles (480 km) wide and joins the Arafura Sea on the northeast. Parts of the Timor Sea are more than 10,000 feet (3,000 m) deep; the southern portion, however, which lies over part of Australia's extensive continental shelf, is quite shallow—less than 600 feet (180 m) deep.
