The Agulhas Current
Agulhas Current, a warm surface current of the Indian Ocean. It is a branch of the South Equatorial Current. North of southern Madagascar it is known as the Mozambique Current. The Agulhas Current flows southwestward along the southeastern and southern coast of Africa. It is deflected eastward and southeastward at Cape Agulhas by the cold Benguela Current. The Agulhas is one of the world's strongest ocean currents, with a speed of up to 1.4 miles per hour (2.3 km/h).
