Bermuda Triangle
Bermuda Triangle, or Devil's Triangle, a roughly triangular area of the Atlantic Ocean (extending from Bermuda to Florida and Puerto Rico) believed by some people to be subject to the influence of supernatural forces. According to this occult belief, an unusually high number of ships and planes have disappeared or been destroyed in the Bermuda Triangle, generally under mysterious—presumably supernatural—circumstances. Maritime historians, however, find nothing extraordinary about the number or nature of the ship and plane losses, noting that the triangle in no way differs from any other stormy area of the ocean that poses hazards to navigation.
The belief in the Bermuda Triangle gained currency after World War II, when a number of stories were published on it in the popular and occult press. During the 1970's, several best-selling books, most notably Charles Berlitz's The Bermuda Triangle, continued to popularize the subject.
