Iztaccihuatl
Iztaccíhuatl, or Ixtacíhuatl, a dormant volcano in Mexico, 35 miles (56 km) east-southeast of Mexico City. It rises to 17,343 feet (5,286 m) above sea level. Iztaccíhuatl appears in Aztec and Mexican lore as “the sleeping white woman,” which its three snowcapped peaks outline. The volcano last erupted in 1868. Nearby is another volcano, Popocatépetl. The two lie in Izta-Popo National Park.
