Cozumel

Cozumel, Mexico, an island in the Caribbean Sea about 10 miles (16 km) off the northeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It covers about 190 square miles (490 km2). Cozumel's pleasant climate, beautiful beaches, and coral reefs make it a popular resort. The island is served by an international airport and a port. Both are located near the island's chief settlement, San Miguel de Cozumel. Cozumel has many Mayan archeological sites. Spanish explorers first reached the island in 1518.
