Welland, Ontario, Canada, a city on the Welland River near the Welland Ship Canal, about 50 miles (80 km) south of Toronto. Welland lies in a rich agricultural region and is an industrial city, producing steel, farm machinery, plastics, and textiles. It was founded in 1830 and was incorporated as a city in 1917.
